This is our last week of summer training before our official season begins on August 3rd. Beginning on August 3rd all athletes are required to be at every weekday practice. Any absences need to be excused ahead of time by the coaches. Athletes can email or text the coaches to inform them of any absences. Absences related to family, church, and school are really the only things any athlete should be missing practice for. Work needs to be scheduled around practices. All athletes need to take care of their eligibility requirements between now and August 13th. Check the registration/fees tab for more information.
I would like to see athletes doing a better job of checking the website regularly and posting their times from workouts and monthly mileage. At this point it is an expectation that athletes do this on their own and should not need constant reminders. Congratulations to everyone who ran in the Deseret News 10K! Boys Results Max Spence 34:19 (last year 36:35) Thomas Odell 35:27 (last year 38:17) Steinar Jordan 35:50 Joseph Peterson 35:51 Jacob Rowley 36:14 Tyler Woods 36:16 Jacob Kuhn 38:54 Alex Johnson 39:06 Bryce Lundstrom 42:35 Girls Results Olivia Hoj 41:01 Cassie Johnsen 41:55 Paige Anderson 47:08 Brooke Anderson 54:06 Monday: Trail Run 4-10 miles (OHS north lot) Tuesday: Rollercoaster Run + Strength Training 5-10 miles (OHS track) Wednesday: Recovery Run + Strides + Core 0-8 miles (SHP) Thursday: Team Camp/On Your Own 4-10 miles Friday: Team Camp/On Your Own 4-8 miles Saturday: Team Camp/On Your Own 6-12 miles Total: 23-58 miles Athletes should be reaching their maximum mileage for the season in the next few weeks. We will be switching from our base building phase of training into our competition prep phase. This means that our intensity of training will rise but our mileage will remain constant. Team Camp Details: We will leave on Thursday morning from the north parking lot at 7:30 AM. Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to help drive and chaperon (Peter Hoj, Shauna Hoj, Dave Spence, Brooke Rowley, and Dawna Rasmussen). Athletes please make sure to turn in your transportation waivers, pay your fee through your webstore account, and sign-up to bring a snack to share for lunches and snacks. Thank you. Snack Sign-up This week is our second "down week" of summer training. If you have been building miles for 3-4 weeks straight, it is time for a lower mileage week. Drop your miles by 5-10 miles this week. If you have already had a lower week at some point in the last few weeks for vacation or something else then continue to build in a slow and steady manner. We've got 2 weeks until the season starts and 1 month until our first meet. Stay focused and motivated.
The Deseret News 10k is this Friday! We would like to have as many of you participate in the race as we can. We need at least 3 boys and 3 girls to be able to score as a team. The race begins at 6AM and the cost is $30 and includes a shirt. To register you need to go to Salt Lake City Marriott University Park – 480 S. Wakara Way, Salt Lake City, UT 84108 between 12PM-7PM on Thursday. You will get all of the race information and your packet when you register. Monday: 4-8 miles trail run (OHS north lot) Tuesday: 4-9 miles craig's cruisers + strength training (OHS track) Wednesday: 0-6 miles easy + strides + core (Sugarhouse) Thursday: 4-7 miles steady run + strength training (OHS track) Friday: 8-10 miles race or on your own + core (Deseret News 10k) Saturday: 3-5 miles easy + strides + core (OHS north lot) Total: 23-45 miles Team Camp Information: We are still looking for one more parent with an SUV/Van to help drive either day with team camp. That person could help drive just Thursday, just Saturday, or both days and stay over with the team and then we would be all set. If you can help please text Coach Mitchell at 952-807-4032. Fees for team camp will be added to athlete accounts on Monday, July 20. Athletes can pay at shopolympushigh.com or in person at the bookstore from 10AM-2PM Monday-Thursday. A sign-up for snacks for team camp will be posted next weekend. Check back then to sign-up. I hope everyone had a good week of training. It's hard to believe our season starts in just 3 weeks. It's also hard to believe that the state meet is just over 3 months away. Remember, "small, daily improvements are the key to staggering long term results!" Get out the door each day with a purpose to improve just a little bit!
Monday: Trail Run 4-9 miles (north lot) Tuesday: Rollercoaster Run + Strength Training 5-10 miles (OHS track) Wednesday: Recovery Run + Strides + Core 0-7 miles (SHP) Thursday: Long Run + Strength Training 6-12 miles (OHS track) Friday: Recovery Run + Core 4-7 miles (SHP) Saturday: 12 Min. Brisk + Strides + Core 4-10 miles (north lot) Total: 23-55 miles If you have not posted your June Miles yet please take care of that ASAP. Remember, it is an expectation that all athletes are keeping track of their training each day.
Saturday (tomorrow) we will meet and run as a team for those who are not racing and are available. We will carpool to City Creek Canyon from the north lot at OHS and should return about 9:30. Next week is moratorium. That means coaches cannot organize, conduct, or attend any team practices. The Olympus XC Team Camp will be July 30-August 1 at Bear Lake at Olivia Hoj's cabin. As previously mentioned, we had to limit the number of athletes for this camp. We have had over 60 athletes attend at least one summer practice and we had many deserving athletes for this opportunity. It was very difficult to make a determination on which athletes to invite; we ask that you respect the decision as a lot of thought was put into it. The athletes who were invited are all returning team members or upperclassmen. If you are new to the team we encourage you to let it serve as motivation to continue working hard in an effort to earn a spot next year. If you were not invited please do not feel that it lessens your value to the team or that the coaches think any less of you! We are proud of our team and the way it has grown and how you all support one another! Boys Britton Buchanan Zack DeGraw Alex Johnson Steinar Jordan Jacob Kuhn Sam Marberger Thomas Odell Nate Osterstock Joseph Peterson Jacob Rowley Sunny Siu Max Spence Tyler Woods Girls Paige Anderson Emma Christensen Katie Duckworth Ashlyn Fox Victoria Graff Olivia Hoj Natalie Howell Cassie Johnsen Kate Jones Courtney Kirk Caroline Pinnock Eden Rasmussen If you are invited to Team Camp but will not be able to attend please let the coaches know ASAP. The cost for camp will be $40 and wil cover food, gas, and a camp shirt. We will need parents to help with transporting the athletes to camp and back. Parents who help with transportation are also invited to stay and help chaperone the trip. Contact Coach Mitchell if you are able to help transport or transport/chaperone. More details about the trip will follow in the next week or two. |
