The second calendar posted is the adjusted workouts for new distance running athletes. When we return from Spring Break, new athletes will follow the same training as everyone else.
All athletes are expected to weight train 2x per week, core 3x per week, hurdle drills 1x per week, plyos or hips 1x per week. Reed will lead weight training on Monday and Thursday after practice. That means you will have a loonnng day at school, so please bring plenty of snacks, hydrate, have a good lunch, and stretch/recover well after those days.
Distance runners WILL do form drills with sprinters 1-2x per week at the beginning of practice on the days when the schedule includes a run + strides or a run + hurdle drills. With drills, etc. for afternoon practices, likely we will begin the running portion of practice around 3:00 PM.
After Spring Break, Betsy will lead AM practice for distance runners only on Tuesdays run starts at 6:00AM and on Friday run starts at 7:00AM (when we have school on Fridays). That should give you time to run 45 minutes, shower in the locker room, and eat breakfast before first period begins. If you run with Betsy in the morning on those days, you are still expected to go to practice for sign in/announcements after school at 2:30 PM. Chris will be there in the afternoon to check in with you as well.
I'm very much looking forward to reconnecting with athletes and getting to know new athletes. Distance running can be hard work, but it is so worth it. Let's do our best to foster friendships and have some fun this season!
