Summer Training
Summer Training is crucial to the success of all cross country runners. It is also important to build up mileage slowly and steadily to prevent injury. It is up to you to follow the training schedule (see images below) and keep track of your daily and weekly mileage - preferably using Strava and joining strava.com/clubs/olympusxc. The goal is to have "no zeros" meaning that on days of the week that you are supposed to run (5-6 days/week) you commit to doing whatever it takes to get some miles in, even if you can't get the whole run in.
IF YOU ARE BRAND NEW TO RUNNING, READ THIS POST for your first weeks of training.
Athletes will be given awards for completing and recording summer miles (see "Mileage & Pacing"). Summer miles go from June 12 - September 10 with awards given to anyone who completes and records over 300 miles. There are separate awards for those who record 400 miles and 500 miles.

June 12 - Aug 4: MEET at 7:30 AM
Summer Training: Coaches will not attend every practice in the summer, but expect athletes to follow the workout schedule. These summer practices are led by the upperclassmen when coaches are unavailable. We encourage the entire team to participate in these practices because it will make their cross country experience more memorable both athletically and socially.
Summer Races: Our training schedule prepares athletes to run the Deseret News 10k on Monday, July 24th. Parents are encouraged to walk or run, too! Athletes are encouraged to race NO MORE THAN 1-2 times during the summer to see where their fitness level is.
Official First Day/Mandatory Practice: Starting Monday, August 7th at Olympus HS Track at 7:30 AM. All cross country athletes are expected to be at practice every weekday. Varsity athletes will "run" practice on Saturdays.
Team Time Trial: Wednesday, August 9th at Cottonwood Complex at 5:00 PM. This will be an intra-squad meet to determine our first race varsity roster. This will be considered our tryout and registration must be completed to compete, however, cross country is a no cut sport.
Paperwork Deadline: Monday, August 7th. Students will not be able to compete in any meets or practices after August 11th without completing UHSAA physical paperwork, submitting all necessary documents on registermyathlete.com, and paying fees on the webstore.
